Filipinler Turizminde Rakamlar

They Want More Tourists

Philippine tourism brought together different players from the industry at the World Travel Expo, which was held in Cebu and concluded today. The expo also highlighted the country’s growth ambitions in international tourism. Held at Ayala Center Cebu from August 14 to 16, the event brought together airlines, hotels, destinations, and travel companies.

The Philippines is attracting attention in the tourism sector not only with its sea, sand, and sun destinations, but also with events that reinforce its position in the international travel market. One of the latest examples was the World Travel Expo (WTE) held in Cebu. Now in its 10th edition, the event demonstrated that the expo is becoming an increasingly important meeting point for the Philippine travel industry.

A Showcase for the Tourism Industry The World Travel Expo was more than just a consumer travel fair; it served as a platform bringing together the Philippines’ diverse destinations and tourism products under one roof. Ad Asia Events Group, the organizer of the event, positioned the World Travel Expo as one of the key travel trade events bringing together tourism boards, travel companies, and industry partners.

Tourism Figures in the Philippines The Philippines welcomed approximately 3.7 million international visitors during the first seven months of 2026. The number of visitors between January and July increased by approximately 4.25 percent compared with the same period last year. This figure is considered an important indicator as the country seeks to strengthen its position in the international tourism market in the post-pandemic period. Therefore, it is possible to view the World Travel Expo in Cebu not simply as a three-day travel fair, but as one of the on-the-ground reflections of the Philippines’ strategy to expand its tourism industry.

Why Is Cebu Important? Cebu, one of the Philippines’ most important tourism hubs, stands out not only for its beaches and island tourism, but also for its air connections, accommodation infrastructure, meeting and event capacity, and easy access to numerous destinations in the surrounding area. The tourism network extending from Cebu to Bohol, Mactan, Moalboal, and the surrounding island destinations makes the region not merely a single destination, but a multi-center travel region. For this reason, a travel expo held in Cebu served as a tourism showcase not only for Cebu itself, but for the entire Central Visayas region.

Becoming More Visible in Türkiye The World Travel Expo in Cebu also has an aspect that deserves particular attention from a Turkish perspective. When considered alongside the Philippine Tourism Authority’s promotional activities in Türkiye, the country’s efforts to become more visible in different international markets stand out. On one side are tourism promotions and industry meetings held in Türkiye; on the other are international travel events organized in destination hubs such as Cebu. Taken together, these developments show that the Philippines’ tourism marketing strategy places importance not only on “telling the story of the destination,” but also on bringing the industry and travel products directly together with potential buyers.

From Türkiye’s perspective, the Philippines’ rise is also a development worth following closely. Destinations across the Asia-Pacific region are now competing for a larger share of international tourists by marketing not only their natural beauty, but also transportation, experiences, gastronomy, accommodation, events, and price advantages as an integrated package. The World Travel Expo in Cebu is a small but meaningful reflection of this shift. The Philippines’ message is clear: having beautiful islands alone is no longer enough to attract more visitors. It is necessary to reach the world, bring the industry together on a common platform, and market the travel experience directly. And Cebu is becoming an increasingly visible stage in this new chapter of the Philippines’ tourism story.
